The Hopewell Township Fire District No.1 is an all-hazards combination career and volunteer organization in conjunction with the Union Fire Company and Rescue Squad that covers Hopewell Valley in Central New Jersey. Established in 1985 and overseen by our elected officials, the Hopewell Township Board of Fire Commissioners is run on tax dollars and fees. Prior to the establishment of the Fire District, the Union Fire Company and Rescue Squad was the primary Hopewell Township volunteer fire company and was organized on January 15, 1920. The Fire District covers a sixty-two square mile district which includes Hopewell Township, Hopewell Borough, and Pennington Borough, and provides emergency services twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week to include fire suppression, emergency medical services, fire code enforcement, hazardous materials response (operations level), water rescue response (technician level), vehicle extrication, technical rescue, public education, and the resolution of disasters, whether they are natural or man-made. The Hopewell Borough Fire District and Pennington Borough Fire District are subsidized with taxpayer funds and shared services agreements, financially, with personnel, and mutual aid emergency responses. Hopewell Township is a diverse community that is rapidly growing in population and businesses. Some highlights include the Delaware River (where George Washington crossed on his way to the Battle of Trenton), interstate and state highways, leading-edge pharmaceutical companies, a hospital, and very large business office complexes.
Another component of the Hopewell Township Fire District is our fire code enforcement branch, the Hopewell Valley Bureau of Fire Safety, which provides fire code inspections, residential resale inspections, fire investigations, and public education. That branch is headed by our Fire Marshal, Andrew Fosina, Jr., and conducted 2,658 commercial and residential fire inspections in 2024.
We are dedicated, caring professionals protecting the community with the goal of improving the quality of life throughout Hopewell Valley. For more information, you can visit our websites at www.HopewellTwpFire.org and www.UFCRS.org.
